    • Industrial Schedule 80 Construction: Molded with double-wall structural thickness compared to generic thin fittings, easily resisting stress cracks caused by massive structural pipe weight or heavy equipment hums.
    • True Metric 63mm Slip Connections: Features unthreaded metric sockets on both interior and exterior ports, accepting standard 63mm metric rigid PVC pipe for permanent, high-velocity solvent welding.
    • Premium Heavy Compression Gasket: Supplied with an extra-wide, commercial-grade rubber gasket that contours to surface flaws for a completely watertight seal.
    • Deep-Thread Locknut Geometry: Formed with clean, robust outer threads and a heavy hexagonal locknut to maximize clamping pressure against tank walls without stripping or binding.
    • 100% Aquarium and Reef Safe: Formulated using high-purity unplasticized polymers that do not leach toxic compounds or chemical plasticizers into high-salinity reef systems.

Reef Octopus Metric Schedule 80 63mm Slip x Slip Heavy-Duty Bulkhead Fitting

The Reef Octopus Metric Schedule 80 63mm Slip x Slip Heavy-Duty Bulkhead Fitting (SKU: ROP-BK80-VP63S) is a premium commercial-grade tank transition component engineered specifically to establish watertight, leak-proof fluid pathways across the structural faces of large glass display tanks, massive multi-tank central filtration sumps, and industrial aquaculture reservoirs. Passing water securely through a rigid containment barrier is one of the highest-stress vulnerabilities in any custom aquarium layout, especially at high-volume capacities. Standard residential lightweight bulkheads feature thin, easily flexed wall structures that can shear or split under the constant side-load pressure of hanging plumbing manifolds, large thermal shifts, or natural system vibration tracking. This industrial Schedule 80 bulkhead neutralizes these structural weak points, providing heavy-wall reinforcement where your system needs it most.

Unlike standard Imperial bulkheads common in North American residential setups, this bulkhead is precisely calibrated to true European metric plumbing standards. It features unthreaded 63mm Socket Slip (hub) connection ports on both its front-flange facing and rear-tailpiece sections, making it an ideal drop-in solution or plumbing upgrade for high-end imported tanks or custom multi-ton installations using factory metric pipes. The dark gray structural polymer composition meets rigid industrial manufacturing standards, providing a clean, rugged appearance behind overflow weirs and inside filter cabinets. Sandwiched against the broad front flange is an oversized, custom-molded rubber compression gasket. When the heavy-duty rear locking hex nut is cranked down, this gasket creates an absolute mechanical seal that absorbs micro-imperfections along your glass or acrylic surfaces, holding up under relentless pressure and blocking moisture creep completely.

    Key Features

    • Engineered for Ultra-High-Volume Flow: The massive 63mm true-bore internal pass-through minimizes dynamic fluid friction, making it ideal for primary main drains, high-turnover loops, and large commercial sump intakes.

    • Protects Against Structural Pipe Leaning: The industrial gray thick-wall profile handles heavy vertical pipe weight from long drain drops without cracking the bulkhead throat.

    • Chemical and Saltwater Isolation: Resists structural softening and chemical degradation from continuous saltwater tracking or concentrated chemical additives.

    • (Note: This retail SKU contains (1) standalone Reef Octopus 63mm Schedule 80 dark gray PVC bulkhead assembly, which includes (1) main threaded metric body flange, (1) heavy-duty matching locking hex nut, and (1) pre-fitted compression rubber gasket. PVC cements, cleaning primers, and metric pipes are sold under separate product categories).

    1. Verify your drilled tank hole dimensions. Ensure the opening measures between 75mm and 79mm and that the surrounding glass or acrylic surfaces are free of chips or burrs.
    2. Clean the area around the hole on both sides of the tank with water and a soft towel to eliminate any dust, grease, glass shavings, or plastic particles before installing.
    3. Place the black compression gasket over the threaded body of the bulkhead, pushing it flush against the wide front flange face.
    4. Insert the bulkhead shaft through the hole from the inside of the tank. The flange and rubber gasket MUST sit on the wet side of the tank. The dry side should only contact the hard nut.
    5. Thread the heavy locking hex nut onto the tailpiece from the dry exterior side of the tank. Turn the nut clockwise by hand until it sits firmly flush against the outer wall.
    6. Hand-tighten the nut securely, then use a specialized bulkhead wrench to turn it an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Do not over-torque, as this can split glass or pinch the internal gasket out of shape.

    Pro Tips:

    • Gasket Placement Rule: The Rubber Gasket Always Goes on the Flange Side.
CRITICAL AQUARIUM PLUMBING WARNING: No matter if you install this bulkhead vertically through a tank bottom or horizontally through a back overflow wall, the black rubber gasket must always rest directly between the wide molded body flange and the glass. Never place the rubber gasket on the side with the spinning locking hex nut. Spinning the hard plastic nut directly against a dry rubber gasket will twist, tear, or warp it out of its tracking groove, causing a permanent leak.
    • Never Slather Silicone or Liquid Thread Dopes onto Bulkhead Gaskets. When sealing the ROP-BK80-VP63S, keep the black rubber gasket completely dry and clean. Do not apply aquarium silicone sealants, plumbing dopes, or petroleum-based greases onto the gasket face or body threads. The rubber gasket is engineered to form a reliable compression seal against clean glass entirely on its own. Adding wet compounds can cause the rubber to slick out, warp, or slide out of position under compression, increasing your risk of a sudden leak down the line.
    • Unscrew and Remove the Bulkhead Assembly Before Gluing Any Pipe Runs. Because this is a metric slip-to-slip bulkhead, you will use standard liquid PVC primer and solvent cement to connect your pipes. Always separate the bulkhead from your tank glass before applying glue. If you attempt to glue your massive 63mm plumbing pipes into the bulkhead while it is clamped to the tank, the expanding chemical vapors from the PVC solvent cement can seep into the tight gaps around the glass, attacking and permanently clouding your acrylic panels or micro-fracturing your glass walls.
