IceCap Coral Frag Transport Tray Magnetic Mount (IC-MBT8)
The IceCap Coral Frag Transport Tray Magnetic Mount (SKU: IC-MBT8) is an authentic, highly practical reef propagation accessory distributed by CoralVue to maximize the versatility of your coral collection gear. Coming home from a local frag swap, club meeting, or fish store usually involves a frantic, stressful race against time. Corals are typically handled multiple times as they are taken out of travel bags, dipped for pests, and then forced onto standard egg-crate or acrylic racks where mismatching plug stems can cause them to tip over under high flow. The IC-MBT8 eliminates this chaotic transition entirely by turning your IceCap Travel Container's internal disc into an instant, fully functional in-tank magnetic frag rack.
This specialized heavy-duty bracket is engineered to perfectly receive the circular 8-plug tray from the IceCap Coral Frag Transport Container (sold separately). Backed by water-insulated rare-earth magnets, the holder clamps securely onto glass or acrylic aquarium panels up to 1/2-inch (1/2in) thick. Because the original tray features numerically labeled holes outfitted with flexible internal grip membranes, your fragile frags remain locked down on the very same "horse they rode in on" until you are ready to glue them into your permanent rockwork display. This clever system dramatically limits moving stress, protects delicate tissue from accidental drops, and gives you a mobile, professional platform to safely light-acclimate new stony corals.
Key Features
Limits Relocation Shock: By utilizing the exact same physical tray from your travel container, your new corals avoid multiple handling steps, speeding up polyp expansion.
Advanced Multi-Plug Grabbing: Relies on the tray's flexible internal membranes to snugly hold various aftermarket plug sizes with stems up to 3/8-inch (3/8in) wide without wobble.
Effortless Height Adjustment: Strong magnetic backing allows you to easily slide the entire assembly up or down your glass to dial in the perfect PAR light levels during acclimation.
(Note: This accessory listing includes the standalone wet-side magnetic receiver bracket and its corresponding external dry-side magnet pad. The circular 8-plug transport container and individual coral frag plugs are sold under separate product categories).

- Unbox your IC-MBT8 magnetic mount set. Separate the wet-side receiver bracket from the dry-side magnet. Warning: Keep the two powerful magnets safely apart during unboxing to avoid pinching your fingers.
- Wipe clean the interior and exterior glass surfaces where you want to mount the rack to clear away any abrasive sand or algae grit.
- Lift the circular frag tray straight out of your IceCap Transport Container jar using its central handle post. Pro Tip: This is the perfect time to drop the tray into a small bowl with coral dip to cleanse your new arrivals before introducing them to the tank.
- Align the bottom alignment tabs of your transport tray with the matching slot tracks on the wet-side holder bracket, pressing down gently until it sits fully flush and secure.
- Place the loaded assembly against the inside aquarium glass below the waterline. Guide the external dry-side magnet into position from the outside until the magnets couple securely.
- Slide the combined mount to your preferred location in the tank, positioning it low to start if your new corals require gradual light acclimation under intense LED arrays.
Pro Tips:
- Slide the External Magnet Onto the Glass Panel Rather Than Snapping It On Directly. Rare-earth aquarium magnets possess incredibly powerful physical attraction forces. When bringing the external dry-side magnet toward the wet-side bracket, never snap it straight against the glass. Doing so can cause a sharp impact that can scratch your acrylic or crack a glass panel. Instead, place the dry magnet far to the side or higher up on the glass, and slide it slowly toward the wet-side bracket until they connect gently.
- Start the Mount Low in the Tank and Slide It Up 1 Inch Per Week. New coral frags coming out of local vendor systems or store tanks are highly sensitive to sudden changes in lighting intensity (PAR) and spectrum. To prevent costly light-bleaching, place your new tray mount low down in your display tank near the substrate line for the first few days. As the corals adjust and expand their polyps, slowly slide the magnetic mount up your glass panel 1 inch per week until they reach their optimal target lighting zone.
- Keep an Eye out for Trapped Sand and Crystalline Salt Creep During Adjustments. Whenever you slide a magnetic frag rack around your aquarium, fine grains of quartz substrate or loose calcification can easily get wedged between the wet-side magnet pad and the interior glass. To prevent deep, permanent cosmetic scratches on your tank panels, always lift the dry-side magnet completely off before relocating the rack rather than dragging it along the wall surface.
