Windy W-7 Clamp-On Evaporative Cooling Fan for Aquarium Temperature Control
The Dymax Windy Cooling Fan brings the same straightforward evaporative cooling approach as the Dymax Vortex Fan in a more compact, budget-friendly package. The fan blows a steady stream of air across the water's surface, accelerating evaporation and pulling heat out of the aquarium in the process — an effective, low-cost way to manage tank temperature during warmer months without the expense of a chiller.
A built-in clamp attaches securely to the edge of most aquariums with no tools required, and a flexible arm lets you angle airflow precisely where it does the most good. The Windy Fan is available in two sizes: the W-4 delivers 4 CFM of airflow for smaller tanks or light supplemental cooling, while the W-7 steps up to 9.0 CFM for larger tanks or more demanding cooling situations. Both models run on 12V DC and operate compactly and quietly.
Key Features:
- Evaporative cooling fan; blows air across the water surface to lower the aquarium temperature
- Built-in clamp for secure, tool-free attachment to most aquarium edges
- Flexible arm allows precise airflow positioning and angle adjustment
- Compact and quiet operation
- Easy installation
- 12V DC operation on both models
Ideal For:
- Hobbyists managing warm tank temperatures on a budget, without the cost of a chiller
- Smaller tanks where the W-4's airflow is sufficient for effective cooling
- Anyone looking for a simple, no-frills cooling fan without automated control features
Pro Tips:
- Match fan size to tank size and cooling need. The W-4 (4 CFM) suits smaller tanks or situations needing light supplemental cooling. The W-7 (9.0 CFM) is the better choice for larger tanks or warmer climates requiring more airflow to meaningfully lower temperature.
- Top off evaporated water more frequently when running a cooling fan. Evaporative cooling accelerates water loss. Running a Windy Fan, especially the higher-output W-7, will increase your tank's evaporation rate. Pair with an auto top-off system if you do not want to manually top off more often.
- Position the flexible arm to maximize surface airflow. The fan works best when air moves directly across the water's surface. Adjust the arm until airflow is consistent across the surface rather than angled away from it.
- Consider the Vortex Fan if you want automated thermometer-based control. The Windy Fan does not include automated control wiring as a stated feature. If you want a fan that can be triggered automatically by an aquarium thermometer or controller, compare with the Dymax Vortex Fan.

Instructions:
- Position the built-in clamp on the edge of your aquarium and tighten securely.
- Adjust the flexible arm to angle the fan directly across the water's surface.
- Connect the fan to a 12V DC power source.
- Power on the fan to begin cooling.
- Monitor evaporation rate after installation and adjust your auto top-off system or manual top-off schedule as needed, since evaporative cooling increases water loss.
- Periodically check the clamp and arm position to confirm the fan remains securely attached and properly angled.
