Maxspect Gyre 300 Series & IceCap Backup Battery Y-Cable

In a densely stocked reef aquarium, an unexpected power outage can lead to critical oxygen depletion and catastrophic livestock loss within a few hours. The Maxspect Gyre 300 Series & IceCap Backup Battery Y-Cable (SKU: GP-YCBL) is the dedicated OEM power-splitting harness that bridges the IceCap Battery Backup (V2 and V3) with Maxspect Gyre 300 Series wavemakers (XF330 and XF350).

The Maxspect Gyre 300 dual-pump controller operates two wavemaker pumps simultaneously, utilizing a specialized dual-input power arrangement. Standard single-line battery leads cannot supply both channels without proper branching. The GP-YCBL Y-cable splits the backup battery output into the dual inputs needed by the Gyre 300 controller, allowing the battery system to automatically engage when mains power drops out. When coupled with the IceCap battery backup, the system shifts the Gyre pump into a power-saving emergency speed, preserving hours of continuous surface gas exchange and internal water movement until mains power is restored.

    Ideal Application Scenario

If you are adding an IceCap Battery Backup V2 or V3 to an existing Maxspect Gyre XF330 or XF350 system, or if your original Y-cable has suffered pin fatigue, insulation damage, or salt corrosion, installing an authentic GP-YCBL ensures reliable, fail-safe connection during emergencies.

    Installation & Setup Guidelines:

    1. Disconnect the main Gyre power supply from the wall outlet prior to wiring battery components.

    2. Connect the single female/male receiving end of the GP-YCBL Y-cable to the output link cable coming from the IceCap Battery Backup V2 or V3 unit.

    3. Plug the dual branching output connectors of the Y-cable into the auxiliary/power input ports on your Maxspect Gyre 300 Series controller.

    4. Reconnect your primary AC power adapter to the controller and plug all equipment back into the wall outlet.

    5. Test the failover function by temporarily unplugging the main AC power brick from the wall; verify that the Gyre controller immediately switches over to battery power and runs the pump.

    6. Plug the primary power supply back in to return to normal scheduled operation.

    Pro Tips:

    • Conduct Routine Outage Simulations. Test your battery backup connection every 3 to 6 months by unplugging the main wall adapter for 60 seconds. Simulating an outage verifies that the GP-YCBL connections remain tight, the internal battery holds sufficient charge, and the pump ramps down into battery-saving mode as expected.
    • Secure Connectors Away from Floor Dampness. Never leave DC barrel jacks or splitter connections resting on the sump floor or cabinet base where dripping water or salt creep can settle. Use adhesive cable clips to secure the Y-cable junctions to the upper interior wall of the cabinet to prevent galvanic corrosion across the metal pins.
