    • Direct OEM Membrane Housing Fit: Factory-original replacement 90-degree male elbow fitting engineered specifically for membrane vessels on IceCap 4-Stage, Smart RO/DI, and piggyback upgrade kits.
    • Standard 1/8" NPT Thread Interface: Features 1/8-inch male tapered pipe threads designed specifically for standard reverse osmosis membrane housing feed, concentrate (waste), and permeate (product) ports.
    • Clean 90-Degree Tube Clearance: Directs 1/4-inch OD polyethylene tubing cleanly along the profile of the membrane cylinder, preventing sharp line bends and crimping.
    • Tool-Free Quick-Connect Port: Integrated collet with stainless steel teeth locks 1/4-inch OD tubing firmly in place for an instant, pressure-tight seal without tools or clamps.
    • Food-Grade Acetal Construction: Molded from heavy-duty, chemically inert polyoxymethylene (POM) that withstands booster pump surges and household line pressures up to 125 PSI.

IceCap Reverse Osmosis 1/8-Inch Male Elbow Fitting

Maintaining neat, stress-free plumbing is vital for the high-pressure membrane stage of an aquarium reverse osmosis system. The IceCap Reverse Osmosis 1/8in Male Threaded Elbow x 1/4in Tube (SKU: IP-RI-Q4042 / IC-RI-Q4042) is the official OEM 90-degree adapter fitting engineered specifically for IceCap Reverse Osmosis and RO/DI Membrane Housings and universal 1/8-inch RO vessel ports.

While standard 10-inch prefilter and deionization canister caps utilize 1/4-inch NPT threads, reverse osmosis membrane housings almost universally employ smaller 1/8-inch female NPT threaded ports for their inlet cap and dual base outlets (pure permeate product and brine waste). Using straight fittings in these positions forces semi-rigid 1/4-inch tubing outward at awkward angles, resulting in severe line bending, kinking, and lateral levering that can crack delicate housing necks. The IP-RI-Q4042 solves this by adapting 1/8-inch male NPT threads directly into a 90-degree 1/4-inch quick-connect push-fit port. This allows feedwater, product water, and wastewater lines to run parallel along the housing body, maximizing cabinet space and preventing chronic weeping leaks under operational pressures up to 125 PSI.

    Ideal Replacement & Upgrade Scenarios

If an existing membrane housing fitting has cracked at the threaded neck from overtightening, if the quick-connect collet no longer grips 1/4-inch tubing securely, or if you are assembling a dual-membrane upgrade kit and need low-profile 90-degree connections, installing an authentic IP-RI-Q4042 ensures a leak-free, factory-aligned fit.

    • (Note: Package includes (1) IceCap 1/8-inch Male NPT to 1/4-inch OD Tube 90-Degree Elbow Fitting).

    Installation & Replacement Guidelines:

    1. Shut off the cold-water feed supply to your RO/DI unit and relieve line pressure by opening the product line.

    2. If replacing a damaged fitting, press the collet collar firmly against the fitting body and withdraw the 1/4-inch tubing, then unscrew the old fitting counter-clockwise.

    3. Clean the female 1/8" NPT threads on the membrane housing to remove any old thread tape fragments.

    4. Wrap the male threads of the new IP-RI-Q4042 clockwise with 2 to 3 layers of high-density PTFE Teflon thread tape.

    5. Hand-thread the fitting into the 1/8" female NPT membrane port until snug.

    6. Using a small open-end wrench on the molded hex flats, tighten an additional 1 to 1.5 turns until the quick-connect port points in the desired routing direction.

    7. Inspect the end of your 1/4-inch tubing to verify a clean, square cut, then press it firmly into the collet until it seats fully past the internal O-ring.

    8. Reopen the cold-water feed supply and inspect the joint for leaks under full operational pressure.

    Pro Tips:

    • Do Not Over-Torque 1/8" NPT Threads into Membrane Housings. Membrane housing ports are molded from rigid polymer and feature smaller 1/8-inch female threads that can split if excessive rotational torque is applied. Thread the IP-RI-Q4042 in by hand first, then use a small wrench for only 1 to 1.5 additional turns to align the elbow. Excessive tightening will crack the housing boss, requiring complete replacement of the membrane vessel.
    • Note on Check Valves vs. Standard Elbows. Standard elbow fittings (IP-RI-Q4042) allow bidirectional fluid flow and are designed for the membrane cap feed port and wastewater brine port. However, the center permeate (pure product) port on most membrane housings requires an elbow with an integrated internal one-way check valve to prevent backpressure damage. Verify whether your application requires this open elbow or a check-valve elbow before installation.
