IceCap Fish Trap Replacement Suction Cup
Catching a specific fish or removing an aggressive specimen from an established aquarium without tearing down rockwork requires patience and a steady trap. The IceCap Fish Trap Suction Cup (SKU: IP-FT-SC) is the official OEM replacement mounting suction cup engineered specifically for the IceCap Fish Trap series.
To successfully catch elusive livestock, an acrylic fish trap must remain anchored against the aquarium glass so fish can enter without being startled by sudden movement. Over prolonged exposure to saltwater, intense reef lighting, and microalgae, standard suction cups naturally stiffen, lose elasticity, or develop flattened edges that fail to hold a vacuum. Replacing worn or degraded cups with an authentic IP-FT-SC suction cup restores a firm hold against tank walls, keeping the trap level, secure, and ready for deployment.
Ideal Replacement Scenario
If your existing fish trap suction cup has turned brittle, discolored, lost its vacuum grip, or tore at the mounting stem during removal, installing a fresh IP-FT-SC suction cup restores reliable holding stability.

Installation & Mounting Guidelines:
Remove any old or torn suction cup pieces from the mounting hole on the trap's acrylic panel.
Lubricate the mushroom stem of the new IP-FT-SC with a drop of RO/DI water.
Push the stem head firmly through the pre-drilled acrylic mounting hole until the retention flange locks into place on the opposite side.
Clean the interior aquarium glass with an algae scraper to remove film or coralline algae where the trap will hang.
Press the suction cup firmly against the clean glass surface inside the aquarium to engage the vacuum seal.
Pro Tips:
- Always Mount to a Scraped, Algae-Free Surface. Suction cups require a smooth glass surface to maintain a vacuum. Even a light biofilm or dust algae layer will allow air or water to seep under the edge and break the suction. Always run a clean blade or magnet cleaner over the glass mounting area before setting the trap.
- Warm Water Soak for Maximum Pliability. If a new suction cup feels stiff out of packaging or was stored in a cool area, soak it in warm freshwater (approx. 100°F to 110°F / 38°C to 43°C) for two minutes before installation. This softens the elastomer material, allowing it to conform flat against the glass for maximum grip.
