    • 100% Corrosion-Resistant Engineering: Built entirely from thick-wall gray uPVC and premium EPDM rubber with zero metal components, ensuring safe operation in harsh marine environments.
    • Dual True Union Serviceability: Removable end connectors and heavy-duty collar nuts allow the entire valve body to be disconnected for seasonal cleaning without cutting adjacent pipe lines.
    • Gravity-Assisted Floating Ball Mechanism: A free-floating internal ball lifts effortlessly under pump pressure and seats securely during power outages, eliminating valve chatter.
    • Full-Port High-Volume Intakes: Engineered with a wide interior chamber that preserves hydraulic flow velocity and minimizes system head-pressure drag on main return lines.
    • Positive Backflow Prevention: Operates effectively under low back-pressures, establishing an airtight seal to halt backward siphon tracks and prevent filter sump overflows.

CoralVue 1-1/2 Inch True Union Ball Check Valve

The CoralVue 1-1/2 Inch True Union Ball Check Valve (SKU: RF-8015GST) is an industrial-spec directional control component distributed by CoralVue to provide fail-safe backflow prevention, maintain pump prime, and protect multi-tank filtration arrays against back-siphon disasters. Plumbing high-volume aquarium systems or large commercial aquaculture sumps creates a high-stakes vulnerability: if the main return pump shuts down due to a power outage or maintenance sweep, water immediately reverses path. This back-siphons down into the filter room, quickly overwhelming sumps and risking catastrophic room flooding. Standard retail swing check valves use cheap metallic pins that rust in saltwater, while spring check valves require significant cracking pressure that taxes return pumps. This premium ball check valve resolves these limitations with a non-metallic, gravity-driven fluid containment design.

Constructed from robust, industrial dark grey PVC, this valve includes interchangeable socket slip and female threaded end connectors to fit any system layout. Inside the primary pressure chamber, a solid, precision-molded PVC ball handles flow directional sealing. When the system pump is active, forward water pressure lifts the ball into a top cage, keeping the line unobstructed. The moment pump pressure stops, back-flowing water and gravity push the ball down into a custom-contoured EPDM rubber seat. This establishes a bubble-tight seal that stops back-siphoning instantly. Rated to handle persistent fluid force, this heavy-wall check valve stands up to continuous system tremors and hydraulic shocks while protecting your investment.

    Key Features

    • Silent, Safe Operation: The smooth interior tracking channel stops the irritating clapping noises and heavy water-hammer vibrations common with standard swing check valves.

    • Zero Pipe Cutter Friction: Dual outer union nuts unscrew smoothly, letting you pull the central core body out to clean away calcified scale or loose macro-algae strands without replumbing.

    • Resists Aggressive Reef Additives: The inert uPVC outer shell and EPDM softgoods handle continuous exposure to high salinity, liquid carbon dosing, and ozone injection tracks.

    • (Note: This retail SKU contains (1) fully assembled 1-1/2" Grey True Union Ball Check Valve, including socket slip ends, alternative threaded female NPT ends, union locking nuts, floating sealing ball, and pre-installed internal EPDM seals. Solvent glues and rigid PVC piping are sold separately).

While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. If you experience any issues with your food purchase shortly after receiving it, such as concerns about freshness, packaging integrity, or product quality, please contact us at [email protected]. We're committed to making it right and will work with you to resolve any problems quickly and fairly.

    1. Trace your water path. Note the raised direction arrow molded into the grey PVC valve body. The arrow must point in the direction of intended forward pump flow.
    2. Choose your connection method. Use the socket slip end connectors for direct solvent-welding to your pipe, or the threaded female options for screw-in configurations.
    3. Unscrew both large union nuts and slide them over your plumbing lines before mounting the end pieces.
    4. Prep and attach the end connectors to your lines using PVC cement (for slip configurations) or Teflon thread tape (for threaded configurations). Let solvent joints cure for 24 hours.
    5. Place the central check valve body between the mounted end connectors. Ensure the internal EPDM O-rings are seated flush in their circular tracking grooves.
    6. Hand-tighten both union nuts over the valve body threads until secure. Note: For vertical plumbing runs, verify the arrow points straight up so gravity can naturally seat the ball.

    Pro Tips:

    • Vertical Orientation is Preferred for Flawless Seating Performance.
CRITICAL MOUNTING DIRECTION RULE: While this ball check valve can operate horizontally if needed, vertical installation with upward forward flow is highly recommended for best performance. Mounting the valve vertically allows gravity to pull the floating ball straight down into the center of the EPDM rubber seat the moment pump pressure cuts out. Horizontal alignments require a slight back-pressure wave to roll the ball backward into its seat, which can let a small volume of water seep past before sealing completely.
    • Never Install a Ball Check Valve on a Gravity-Fed Sump Drain Line. When mapping out your system manifolds, only place this ball check valve on the pressurized side of return lines or pump feeds. Never place a ball check valve on gravity-fed siphon drain lines or overflow loops. Gravity-fed lines lack the consistent upward hydraulic pressure needed to lift the heavy internal PVC ball, which will create a major flow restriction, collect debris, and cause a severe tank backup or overflow.
    • Do Not Rely on a Check Valve as Your Sole Defense Against Sump Overflows. Although this industrial valve provides excellent, bubble-tight backflow prevention, always back up your check valve with physical siphon-break holes drilled in your return outlets. Calcium deposits, small marine snails, or stray macro-algae strands can occasionally slip into the valve chamber and prevent the ball from seating perfectly. Combining this check valve with a siphon-break hole just below the main tank water line gives you dual-layer defense against basement flooding.
